Attorney – General Counsel Real Estate & Government

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced attorney to join our Minnesota-based practice serving a diverse mix of private and public-sector clients. The practice is rooted in real estate and municipal law, but extends more broadly into business advisory, regulatory, and governance matters. This role is well-suited for an attorney who enjoys long-term client relationships and operating in a general counsel–type capacity, providing practical, strategic guidance across a wide range of legal issues with a team of diverse attorneys. Clients rely on this practice not only for discrete transactions or regulatory approvals, but also for ongoing general advice related to development, operations, governance, and compliance. The position offers meaningful client interaction and the opportunity to work on matters that shape communities and businesses throughout the region.

Practice Areas:

  • Real Estate and Development (acquisitions, leasing, financing, development, and related matters)
  • Local Government (with an emphasis on governance, land use, zoning, and condemnation)
  • Business and Commercial Transactions (contracts, entity matters, and ongoing operational advice)

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as trusted legal advisor and general counsel to long-standing business and government clients 
  • Advise clients on real estate, development, regulatory, and business matters from project inception through completion and ongoing operations
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of legal documents, including contracts, development agreements, ordinances, resolutions, and real estate instruments
  • Represent municipalities and public entities on governance, zoning & land use, and condemnation matters, including attendance at meetings and provision of legal guidance
  • Represent private clients before municipal bodies, boards, commissions, and regulatory agencies in connection with land use, permitting, and development approvals
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, opinions, and presentations tailored to both legal and non-legal audiences
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive service and practical problem-solving
  • Attend and present at public meetings, boards, and commissions as required, including a willingness to attend at least two evening meetings per month in the St. Cloud area
?Requirements:
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in Minnesota
  • Prior experience in real estate, government, or business law is preferred, but candidates with transferable experience and a strong interest in these practice areas are encouraged to apply.
