Commissioner Steve Sviggum: August 13, 2008

Steve Sviggum, Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, will be speaking to members of the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at 8:00AM, at the Chamber Office Harold Anderson Room.  The event is free and open to the public. 

Commissioner Sviggum is endeavoring to reform workers' compensation in Minnesota.  After last year's reform bill failed, the Department of Labor and Industry has been busy working with insurers, employers, and employees to conceive new ways to improve Minnesota's workers' compensation system. The Commissioner will discuss last year's bill, the necessity to reform workers' compensation in Minnesota, and the new bill that will be introduced in the 2009 Session.  Following a brief presentation, the Commissioner will open the topic for discussion with a Q&A session.

This upcoming year certainly has much potential to see some vital reforms to the workers' compensation system.  We welcome members of the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce to this forum to learn more about the proposed changes.
