The 51st Winter Institute

The Winter Institute is an annual summit hosted by the Department of Economics\, School of Public Affairs\, St. Cloud State University. Minnesota is famous for its winter season and every year we use this opportunity to gather the best minds in the region and the country to share their thoughts and ideas on various economics issues with audience from Minnesota and the Midwest. TheWinter Institute is important forum for the members of the community to generate ideas that can foster growth and development in greater St. Cloud area\, central Minnesota\, and beyond.

Many prominent economists and policy makers\, for examples\, Alfred Nobel Memorial Prize Laureate Milton Friedman and Federal Reserve Chairman Benjamin Bernanke\, have been our keynote speakers at the Winter Institute in the past 49 years. Welcome to the Winter Institute website! We have a wonderful lineup of keynote speeches and panels for our 51st Winter Institute which will be held on January 30 and 31\, 2013. The following is our preliminary program:

“Grow Minnesota!” Business Panel

\;Collaborated with the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce

The St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce interviewed almost 100 area businesses to gather these and other statistics about Central Minnesota’s economy. \; During this panel presentation we will hear from the leadership of some of those companies as they discuss what we can do to help businesses expand locally\, whois creating jobs\, what those jobs look like\, and the role of innovation in job creation. \; Join us aswe hear from the businesses that are creating and expanding the local job market and discover whatis in store for Central Minnesota’s economy in 2013.

He has been frequently seen and featured in television news programs (CNN\, Fox\, ABC\, NBC and MSNBC).
